I was born on the 17th of December 1944 in Jeppo, nowadays a part of Nykarleby, a small town on the west coast of Finland. I currently live in Närpes, another small town on the west coast.
From 1989-91 I attended some sculpture courses in Jakobstad. In these popular evening courses I learned how to sculpture both animals and the human body. From 1996-1999 I learned how to melt glass to take the shape of bowls, vases, plates, fruit-plates etc. Having melted the objects I then decorated them with different kinds of motifs to make them look like real works of art.
I started to paint in autumn 2005. I am mainly a pastel painter but sometimes I create oil and acrylic paintings as well. My pastel paintings are made with soft pastels and pastel pencils. They could be grouped into animals, nature, figures, fantasy, fantasy profiles, and purely abstract compositions. When I started to paint my favorite motifs were bears. The somewhat naivistic bear and crocodile paintings are mostly intended for children.
In 2015 I published my first bear fairy tale children’s book titled “Bears”, together with my wife, and illustrated the book with my own bear paintings. In the past few years I have been painting exclusively abstract, not depicting outer reality but with a focus on personal expression. My own imagination is the most important key in my art making. Humor is a dominant element in my artworks.
Paintings with a more imaginative and dreamlike expression could be related to abstract surrealism. As an artist I want to give the viewer of my art the opportunity to make a journey into the world of fantasy. Especially the humorous paintings give glimpses of light, maybe throwing positive reflections upon everyday life.
Besides being an artist, I have also published a great number of collections of poems under pseudonym “Victor”, which I also use when signing my paintings.
